Assigning Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to assess IROs

The Double Materiality module lets you assign Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to assess IROs, either all IROs linked to a Datamaran topic, or specific IROs, so the right people review the ones that need judgement.

You assign SMEs to the IROs that are being assessed: the IROs on bottom-up topics, and any IROs routed to bottom-up from a top-down topic (their Assessment status is To assess). Topics concluded on the top-down path are decided at topic level and do not need per-IRO SME assessment. See Choosing a topic's materiality path: top-down or bottom-up.

Tip: before assigning SMEs, make sure the IRO statements are finalised and ready for assessment. Filtering the IRO long list to To assess first helps you target the right IROs.

Assigning SMEs

1. Open Double Materiality and select the latest analysis version. Previous versions are locked and cannot be used to assess IROs.
2. Open the IRO Hub.

There are two ways to assign IROs to an SME.

Option A: assign all IROs for a topic

1. Choose the topic you want to assign SMEs to.
2. Click the circular profile icon on the far right of the topic.
   
   
3. Enter each SME's email address individually.
   
   
4. (Optional) Customise the email message they receive, including details like assessment deadlines.
5. Click Assign to send the invitations.

Option B: assign specific IROs

1. Click the topic containing the IROs.
2. Use the selector column on the left to choose specific IROs, or assign SMEs to a single IRO by clicking the Reviewers column on the right of that IRO.
   
   
3. Click Assign/Remove reviewers in the bottom black bar.
4. Enter each SME's email address individually.
5. (Optional) Customize the email message with context, such as deadlines.
6. Click Assign to send the invitations.

Note: SMEs receive an email each time you click Assign. To reduce notifications, assign in bulk or at topic level.
